Reaction Statement:
I feel very happy and appreciative to learn that I was selected as the recipient of the First of Us Scholarship. I plan to pursue a career in chemical engineering upon graduating from Texas A&M University. Thanks to your support, I am one step closer to that goal. By awarding me this scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on the most important aspect of school: learning. My long-term goals relate to my personal experience and family background as a Hispanic Student. After graduation, I want to start working in my desired engineering field and earn money to help my family financially. Since I was little, I have always wanted to help others in need, and I want to continue this while also teaching our young adults to have a good soul and help people. I want to return to my community and acquire leadership roles to motivate first-generation students, young adults wishing to become engineers, and students from low-income families to help struggling families and share my background. I would love to motivate ESL students because I know how hard moving and learning a new language is; I see the desperation one feels for not understanding a different language and still having to keep up with social prejudice. Our world is divisive, and I want to change that and bring back the joy and caring society that once existed by helping others. Your generosity has inspired me to continue working hard, give back to the community, and prioritize our resources and environment. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as the Gutierrez Law Firm has helped me.”
