David Z. Gutierrez
Attorney
David Z. Gutierrez is a lawyer with the Gutierrez Law Firm. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and received a Master of Arts in Drama from Texas Woman’s University, which he completed with a 4.0. He is a 2019 graduate of South Texas College of Law Houston, began working at the Gutierrez Law Firm in August of 2019, and became a licensed attorney in October of 2019.
Mr. Gutierrez’s past work experience includes teaching theatre and social studies, and professional work in theatre. While working as a professional theatre artist, he was an assistant director at Dallas Theater Center, Lyric Stage in Irving, and Fort Worth Opera. He also worked in a variety of capacities with Uptown Players, Casa Mañana, McKinney Repertory Theatre, Rover Dramawerks, and Zero Untitled. He also appeared on stage in front of over 2,000 people as a supernumerary (stage extra) with the Dallas Opera. In May of 2022, his play Retraction premiered off-Broadway in New York City at Theatre Row.
Before attending South Texas College of Law Houston, Mr. Gutierrez spent a year working at the Gutierrez Law Firm as a legal research assistant. During law school, he did two summer internships at the Nueces County District Attorney’s Office in Corpus Christi, where he assisted prosecutors in researching various criminal law matters and sat second chair with the prosecution for two aggravated assault trials. He also worked as a summer intern at the U.S. Attorney’s office in Corpus Christi where he researched various federal criminal law issues and even helped prepare an international extradition affidavit. During his final semester of law school, Mr. Gutierrez interned part time at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Houston, working in the asset forfeiture and financial litigation section. While in law school, he also assisted the Gutierrez Law Firm in preparing for appellate litigation.
