Paraquat is an herbicide used to kill weeds, for clearing fields before planting crops, and as an herbicide for weeds that have developed resistance to Roundup weedkiller. Hay, cotton, corn, alfalfa, and wheat are just some crops that farmers and agricultural workers use Paraquat for. Paraquat has been called the world’s deadliest weed killer. According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s website, “a single sip of Paraquat can be fatal.” It has been restricted or banned in China, the European Union, and Brazil, but it is still one of the most widely used herbicides in the United States. Many studies from as far back as the 1990s have shown that exposure to Paraquat can cause Parkinson’s Disease.
